Varuna, revealing something of its nature and something of mine, was discovered in Cancer, not Capricorn, as I have mistakenly published in recent weeks. Fortunately, existing in Capricorn's opposite sign, this planet is offering a lot of influence to both, to the entire Cancer-Capricorn polarity.

Varuna is a trans-plutonian planet with an orbit of 285 years, about 900 km in diameter, and is now in the 11th degree of Cancer. Discovered in 2000, Varuna's designation is minor planet 20,000. By comparison, Chiron, discovered in 1977, is minor planet 2060, and Ceres, discovered in 1801, is minor planet 1. In ancient Vedic mythology Varuna was the lord of waters. Planets are not always delineated, in their astrological meaning, in ways that exactly parallel the myths, though there are relationships. As important are the astronomical characteristics, the discovery chart, the mathematics of the orbit, and the composition of the body.

"Varuna is 'beyond'," writes small planet specialist Juan Revilla. "It is entirely plutonian or non-human, like a cosmic order instead of a social order, like the impersonal laws of nature instead of the laws of society, representing what is behind all that. Varuna is very literally behind everything."

Sign dates below are approximate. They now overlap by one day. The date and time of the Sun's ingress to the new sign changes a little each year, so please check with an astrologer if you want the exact position of your Sun, and while you're at it, your rising sign -- this horoscope is written for both your Sun and rising signs. If you find that some other sign's interpretations work for you, then go for it.

Astrology Readings on CD by Eric Francis

Aries (March 20-April 21)
I was just having one of those awesome moments of doubt and wondering, what is this whole business of a horoscope? Of looking at a map of the planets and snapping the universe like a cookie and coming out with a little Chinese fortune, which is somehow beyond the immediate grasp of doubt, and which says: Yeah, just like Mars in Aries, this cycle of your complicated journey forward returning forward to some true place of beginnings, and we know how you adore beginnings. A beginning is a great place to stop, say your name a few times, and wonder.

Taurus (April 21-May 20)
Venus in Aquarius is quite a study in reality, because it is so like you and yet so unlike you. There can be no debate that the question of freedom, as much as it can be invoked in a world in which, in some strange way, we are all either prisoner, refugee or wayfarer, is now front and center in your life. There is so much awakening both within you, and in the world around you, that points to true potential, life calling, aspiration and community. You need not fear that to make one choice is to forsake all the others. Rather, at this point, to make any one choice is to create the rest, particularly if you keep listening carefully.

Gemini (May 20-June 21)
I trust that you are well, and doing your thing. It's funny how other people can get distracted long enough, or well enough, to leave you alone, just when you need it most. The beauty is, you can be invisible, or not, as the mood inspires you, and any one of your many twins can appear at your door. And who is that person? You don't know until you find out. The way your life is going now, no chance is a small one, which means that little adventures can take you to great places.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Money is not the issue; money is not the issue; the issue is choice, maintaining a sense of your own presence in the world, and, knowing where you are appreciated for your actual value rather than the list price, your worst fears, or somebody else's notions. This is a brilliant time of potential exchange, and this is all you seek with the world, anyway. Your life is not about doing or even being, it is about the movement of love, ideas and appreciation, in the two major directions: to and from. You.

Leo (July 22-Aug. 22)
So, what do you see in the mirror? Not as simple as you once seemed, but I can't blame you for your expectations. And I am pretty sure that if you look closely or at least honestly, you will both love and like the person you get to know, and best of all, if you get the hang of this now, you'll do this a little differently every day for many years to come. All you really need to do is look gently.

Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22)
I need to explain to you in astrological terms what is happening, and this applies to Pisces equally, and in some important respect to the rest of us as well -- though in many different ways. As some of you know, I put a lot of emphasis on Chiron as a planet that tells us a lot about the nature of Virgo, and Virgo as an energy which tells us a lot about the nature of Chiron. The central ideas here are: awareness, individuality, teaching and healing. Jupiter, the patron saint of your opposite sign Pisces, is now both in a watery sign (Cancer, very strong there, bringing out the most compassionate expression of its role as expander, wisdom-bearer, center of culture, and symbolic home of the masters). Jupiter is now directly opposing Chiron, which is in Capricorn, an earthy sign. Varuna (see above) is involved, widening the meaning and impact of this connection. There is magnificent harmony to this whole setup, and at the same time there is direct, potent contact between a planet that has the main property of expanding reality, providing intelligence and carrying us to better places, and Chiron, which can channel energy directly where it's needed for a specific purpose. In short, you are integral to this whole process, it is working its wonders within you, and in reality, you have little to worry about save for staying in the presence of your loving heart, and remaining mildly amused at all times.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23)
Sorry - This was posted incomplete the first time! The Dali Lama is reputed to have said, "My religion is kindness." But I am wondering what your religion is. I know that it includes kindness, but you're too weird to have it be just kindness. I would, looking at the chart and making up a story, say that your religion is probably about the exploration of ideas themselves, and that these ideas are highly diverse, and that suddenly you are standing in a vast assortment of choices of what to explore, and who, and why. Perfect, given your religious tendencies. I can't see exactly what those options are, but the chances are good that there are more than enough viable ones that any path you take will lead you to a solid and fulfilling destination. The important thing now is to choose with heart first, and wisdom second.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
So you, but yet so unyou. Presently, it is just simply so that you'll have to hang out and be with who you are, in all your glorious and outrageous complexity of thought, feeling and intention. And, if you notice that, there may be something else for the noticing, which you may have already noticed: an entirely alternate sense of I Amness, one world apart, free from the world, you might say, lost in your work.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22)
Something called the South Node is crossing the galactic core in late Sagittarius. Our galaxy, officially called the Milky Way (it has a name, unlike our planet earth, which is technically not even a proper noun), is a flat spiral. The core of that spiral has an immense cluster of stars, untold thousands of stars, and at its core is something called a black hole: a blob of something akin to pure gravity. We can only speculate and surmise what is happening at the galactic core. But astrology tells us that whatever that may be, the galactic core is talking to us right now: talking from a distant past to a distant future, as befits light. We might say this is a good time to listen carefully.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)
The fog is clearing. Much that seemed shrouded in mystery, or which was later revealed to be shrouded in mystery, is now allowing the light to shine through. I would suggest that you may be gaining a better understanding of your motives, and of the events that led you to this place. Which can be very useful. Once again, you have the chance to save yourself from choices made based on the past, on what you wanted in the past, and who you wanted in the past. Point your life to the future and you will be pointing your life to the present.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)
You are now free of something or someone. That someone, if it's a someone, has wanted to be free of you, not to tear themselves away, but rather to be enough of an individual to manifest before you as an intact human being (among other reasons), which is not always easy in this world, or in your world. What you are going through is something really similar, only it involves sorting out the many notions and expressions of who you are, and finding a moment of rest in a cohesive sense of identity that is not based on your parents, or defining yourself as apart from them. You are simply you.

Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)

"There are approximately a quadrillion times a quadrillion atoms in your brain," says Bucky Fuller in I Seem To Be A Verb, opened randomly to page 57A. That's a lot of Zeros.

PS, please see Virgo.
