May Monthly Horoscope

When Worlds Collide

May-June Schedule

My take on the current or rather soon-upcoming astrology is that, while it would be really great for this exuberant wind to blow across our worlds and freshen the air, we need to be doing a lot of our own clearing-out work right now. The events of May and June are going to bring a different kind of wind, a wind that cleanses on a deep level and forces us to confront our innermost "stuff," "demons," "issues," and personal reality. Things are pretty calm now, but the changes are likely to come on fast and furious, preceded by a wave of confusion that may lead us to forget the real issues for long enough that they become much more difficult to return to. The less extraneous material we have in the way, the better; the more energy we assign directly to dealing with confusion, the better. Insights do count for a lot, but my sense is that it's more important that we know our limits, that we be clear about who belongs in our lives and who does not, and that we get out of the really vicious game of deceiving ourselves about what we really want from our experience here. The big, as in global, picture is the most relevant right now as a kind of Tarot card that reveals the true inner state of the human race as a whole. I don't mean to blame George W. Busch and his cronies for your problems. I am suggesting, rather, that he is the product of our collective self-neglect, and our corresponding neglect of community. Look at his picture and ask yourself: Do I want what this man is selling? If not, what are you going to do about it?

Sign dates below are approximate. They now overlap by one day. The date and time of the Sun's ingress to the new sign changes a little each year, so please check with an astrologer if you want the exact position of your Sun, and while you're at it, your rising sign -- this horoscope is written for both your Sun and rising signs. If you find that some other sign's interpretations work for you, then go for it.

Aries (March 20-April 21)
Given the choice between being right or being happy, I suggest you choose happy. You have a lot going for you right now, but your rather hot mind and your strong sense of your own feelings suggest that it would be wise to choose not just your battles, but also your personal encounters, wisely. The ease with which you can evade your own feelings in your relationships with others is the same ease with which you can express the truth of what you're experiencing, but it would be prudent to be extremely selective. Not everyone deserves to be let into the depths of your heart, and besides, we both know you want who you want.

Taurus (April 21-May 20)
I don't blame you for feeling edgy about something you can't exactly define. In some subtle way you may feel your whole life has been leading to this moment, which is literally true. I would suggest that your mission for these days is to maintain the greatest possible feeling of stability within the conditions of the greatest possible change. If you think that circumstances are having an affect on you, I would propose that, to the contrary, you are the one provoking yourself to be entirely different than you've known yourself to be in the past. Different? You would benefit immensely from a long talk with yourself about just what you value in this life, or rather, a good long listening to yourself. You know something important, but you don't know it yet.

Gemini (May 20-June 21)
You are probably hoping to crack the codes on why everyone else seems so powerful and you seem so weak, despite whatever else may be happening in your life. I assure you, this is an illusion; it is something that appears to be so, that is not so. Your desire seems to be moving far ahead of your ability to process the experiences it's creating. If astrology means anything at all, the best you can do for yourself is set limits in your life, and work within them, even though the space may seem cramped or higher in pressure than you like. It may also seem that you are being singled out for some kind of special growth project you didn't sign up for and have no interest in being part of. But it's more like a privilege. Have faith.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
You can be thankful the stresses of the past few days are over. What exactly happened? You can treat the experiences as if they were a dream (one dream, not many), and interpret them on a purely symbolic level. What was revealed was a division in your feelings, but this seeming flaw in your emotional architecture is precisely the space through which new energy and a new sense of your reality can flow into your life. Fear has its place, which is, on the most basic level, to show us what we're afraid of. We can take it as gospel, or we can take it as scientific data that must be dealt with. A slightly less emotional approach to life would serve you well, though I recognize fully this may not be possible.

Leo (July 22-Aug. 22)
The Sun is about to join Venus and Mercury in the most ambitious angle of your solar chart, in astrology known as the 10th house. Sometimes, when there are planets moving through the 10th, one's reputation just takes off, but that is usually the result of cultivation work that was done over many long months or years prior. Whatever may be the case in your life, I can tell you that the 10th house rewards effort, such as getting your name and your work out there, and making sure people actually know what you've accomplished. Projects you initiate now will show benefit in the long run, but it may not take so long.

Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22)
I see you desperately trying to pull something into focus, something that honors the more creative side of who you are rather, than the dependable side. If you don't make such an effort, it will come: I know this because this week we are experiencing the third pass of the Chiron-Jupiter opposition, exact April 18th, which is poised to serve as a rare gateway in your life. If you would put some energy into honoring the child within your heart who was never allowed to express your joys, desires and ideas, you would find that this child will ease up on his or her anger, and reward you with real experiences of childlike happiness.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23)
I have little doubt that based on experiences of recent months, you're feeling like your existence is subject to fate more than it is to your own power of will, or the choices you make. But for the moment, your decisions -- particularly the ones you make Thursday and Friday -- count for a lot more than usual. But I think, overall, the key will be refining your negotiation skills. In fact, other people do possess some of what you need to make your life complete, but the other fact is that you possess some of what they need. In a perfect world, everyone is complete and relates from a space of completion. But it's not a perfect world, so we need to be content to help one another out.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
Please don't project too much of your goodness onto others. Keep it for yourself, or share it if you like, but please don't make other people good at the expense of you being somehow imperfect or less-than-real. The fact that you're opinionated and (oh, no) perceptive may give you a reputation as a hard-ass or someone who won't take human foibles as an excuse for why the world has a tendency to fall apart. We depend on how shrewd you are, quite frankly, and if you did not have the ability to see the problems you do, you would not have the ability to solve them.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22)
The burden is now shifting onto other people to do some of the changing, self-healing and emotional growth work; you have done more than your share. The problem with this is that when people start to change, you have to deal with their changes, and progress is not always neat and tidy, and that you have no control over the outcome. The good news is that you are fast approaching a threshold in your life beyond which it will be, for all practical purposes, impossible for you not to discern who is true to you, and who is not. The vital part you can play in this rather dramatic unfolding of events is not being so enamored of your own power that you forget that deep inner change is not as easy for others as it is for you.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)
The events of the past few days should be serving as a kind of sonar into the future, providing a reading of where your strengths and weaknesses reside, and where you really stand with yourself. It would serve you to eliminate as many of your ideas about victim/perpetrator as possible, though before you do that, you need to be aware of them. It would also be immensely helpful if you could make some clear distinctions about the differences between pleasure and pain. You don't know as much about this as you think, and lately the world is not exactly helping us sort out the truth in this particular matter, given all the possibilities we have for enjoying suffering. You will need to really pay attention. And you'll be glad you did.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)
It's a good time to take note of the effect you have on other people. There are certain facts of your life that are reaching their outermost limits now, and I don't say this casually. It's not like you're going to cross over those limits and wreak havoc, but it's clear that you're being taken on a tour of the edge. And part of that involves raising your sensitivity to how you impact the lives of people around you, particularly close partners, no matter what they may say, do, think, or give you the impression they are feeling that may seem to contradict probable reality. We do not live in an honest world, and the best we can hope for is to be honest, and to act honestly.

Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)
From an email: "The hard lessons of love are going around, around my heart and home as well. I did not mean to be insensitive. No matter what, love seems to invoke a paradox, or rather, being in love does so. The relationships that unfold over many years, where I have neither an agenda nor desire that I take seriously, seem to be the most meaningful and happy for me, and for sure, they match no story book. I think these are hard times for awake people because it seems we cannot experience the closeness we know is possible, not entirely owing to our own shortcomings. I am not sure why this is, except I know that everything is changing. If you know you have armor, and deal with it somehow, that is a lot better than not knowing, or ignoring the fact. Far as I can tell."
