April Monthly Horoscope

For the Faithful | Were It So

Astrology Readings on CD by Eric Francis

Sign dates below are approximate. They now overlap by one day. The date and time of the Sun's ingress to the new sign changes a little each year, so please check with an astrologer if you want the exact position of your Sun, and while you're at it, your rising sign -- this horoscope is written for both your Sun and rising signs. If you find that some other sign's interpretations work for you, then go for it.

We are now at the Vernal Equinox, the first days of Spring in the northern hemisphere and the first days of Autumn in the southern. For a few days, dark and light share equal time on the face of the Earth. The Sun has crossed into Aries, the first sign of the horoscope. Through much of Wednesday and Thursday, the Sun is conjunct the Aries point, the first degree of what's called the "tropical zodiac." I think the horoscope for the moment of the Equinox (2:17 p.m EST., on Wednesday, March 20) is a really interesting chart. There is a Gemini moon, for example, exactly square Mercury in Pisces. Normally, this would be seen as tense and confusing, a struggle between the mind and the emotions. But because the moon is so strong in Pisces (properly called exalted) and Mercury rules Gemini, these two planets are in what's known as mutual reception -- and they can trade places. Then there is Venus in Aries and Mars in Taurus. They, too, occupy one another's signs, so they can switch places. In a really wild system of astrology (called Esoteric Astrology, proposed fifty years ago by an author named Alice A. Bailey) Jupiter rules Aquarius and Neptune rules Cancer. These planets, too, are currently in one another's signs, with Jupiter in Cancer and Neptune in Aquarius -- so they, too, can switch places.

Is the Universe making a picture?

Reality is changeable. The key is to keep your sense of humor and look for your options.

Bring Back Fawn Hall!

and... Gulf War...The Sequel

Aries (March 20-April 21)
Part of the human condition involves this little issue where we feel one way on the inside and act one way on the outside. Isn't it annoying? I think a lot more people want to be real than can actually get real; it takes not just guts but strength. Well if you ever wanted give it a try, or a bigger try, now is the time. Now is the time for a grand experiment in preaching what you practice, talking your walk, putting your mouth where your money is, and vice-versa about six different ways. If you are afraid that something about you is too complicated, this is just one of those glitches in human thinking you can walk right through. You care complicated, but you are making sense.

Taurus (April 21-May 20)
There is no need to tease yourself about allowing yourself to feel what you really want and need out of life, and you may not even know that's what you are doing. But as you let go into the sensation of your own desire a little at a time, you will get the idea; you will slip into a resonance between consciousness and body knowledge that will feel like slipping into what I can only describe as an honest awareness of your reality: taking a hot bath in your own personal truth. Most of the time we "know" but we "hold back." This holding back is a really interesting phenomenon, but letting go is more than interesting: it is beautiful.

Gemini (May 20-June 21)
Geminis take the rap for showing up everywhere in two parts, but all people experience the parts phenomenon. By the time childhood is over, we have an angry part, a sad part, a loving part, a dutiful part, a rebellious part, all of which are conditioned to exist or not exist depending on what circumstances are appropriate, and all of which are in relationship to one another. The two dominant parts that are competing now seem like sensitivity and mental alertness. But they are the same thing; each leads to the another most assuredly. Bring the two together and you will find yourself in possession of what feels like a rare gift of being, one that will help you equally in your personal and your professional lives -- which are, of course, one life.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
We are in a new season, and this is a condition to which you are especially sensitive -- being born in one of the other turning point signs, when summer begins. This is one of the most visible, productive and achievement-oriented times of year for you, and you have every right to capitalize on it, though what I see in your chart is a nagging insecurity that might keep you tied to some old memories or old fears. The chart proposes a way out of the fear, one of which is to work in what some call the spiritual realm. Spiritual is a funny word that (while often perfectly useless) sometimes references exploring the religious views of another culture. Tibet? China? Meso-America? Follow your nose, and many gifts await you.

Leo (July 22-Aug. 22)
Your world is expanding, and it's about time. Long ago your life became a situation in which you were faced with test after test. The combination of outer planets (Uranus and Neptune) in your opposite sign, and a series of very intense eclipses through the late '90s, set you on a whole different course in life, one you may feel you would have preferred not to embark upon. But you have come through that era, and you have done it well, and you have become another person. Now that person gets a chance to stretch out, to explore the world in which he or she finds herself, and to touch the state of grace that comes with living the right life in the right moment of history: such is your story.

Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22)
I would not be surprised if you feel overwhelmed with the sense that the world depends on your actions, the world and some key people in it, from family members to colleagues to partners. That's a lot of pressure. But you could turn that around and remind everyone that you depend on them, which somehow I sense is not quite in your nature to admit. If you can work two sides of one equation -- boundaries, on the one side, and the fact of being interdependent, on the other -- you will probably find things going along much smoother. It's nice to know where you begin and the world ends. And it's nice to know that people are going to take note of your needs, and respond; but you will need to remind them.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23)
You could say that nothing is what it seems to be, or everything is so much more. Two areas in your life are especially open to reinterpretation: relationships having a door open to becoming sexual, and work situations having a tendency to become highly enlightening experiences. Those, too, can reverse: situations that you may have thought were just physical or just about commitment can blossom into true partnerships. Aspects of your life that you may have felt were excellent or enlightening ideas without practical application can take on a truly functional purpose: we might call it applied spirituality. Anyway, you can solve some problems this week.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
The current life lesson (ack, there always seems to be one) is the politics of desire. Do I rant about this in the monthly horoscope? Forgive me if so, it's important. Basically, and I know you figured this out already, desiring someone creates a power imbalance. Desire is a universal; power imbalances are thus a given, in this particular world. But you can now be very aware of these things, and make them work for you. Pay attention. There is a myth that the one desired lacks the power, but in fact it starts off the other way around. Yet even this analysis is way too crude. You could, of course, skip the politics and look for meetings where needs and wants match up perfectly. Is this somehow less fun? I hope not.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22)
I see something that's rightfully yours coming back to you. If that something happens to be a someone, then please be careful with the "rightful property" business -- people can loan and donate themselves to us, but we don't own them. At the same time there is an aspect of your sense of relationship that is undergoing what we might properly call a massive change. The process may be invisible now, but I suspect you can feel it. These people who you could never nail down to one way of being, who could never seem to be themselves, are reconciling, but it's really you who is making the change. Please keep taking it a little at a time.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)
We all bear the burden of the generations. We are who are alive today carry the weight of our parents and grandparents (and way beyond) sense of both safety, living in a world where most of the resources go for armaments, and and where we seem to not be able to trust ourselves. If you can tune into this burden, you will see that at its core is the idea that your life is not your own. This is a touch one. The claiming back is not a symbolic gesture, though it may require the use of symbols and rituals. For now, pay attention to every way, and everyone, who seems to remind you that your life is not your life, for they are the ones who will remind you, when you listen, that it is.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)
In the awesome struggle between truth and lies, between what is real and what is not, that has dominated your life in the past few years, you are at a point of clarity, when you can see and feel the innate intelligence that you possess within. The presence of the minor planet Pallas Athene -- the guardian and goddess of wisdom -- is with you now, and her role is to remind you that, in one particular conflict, you have choices. This conflict stands for the struggle that you have attempted to resolve, in the past and perhaps now, by extreme measures that were not connected to any coherent strategy, and which often served only to get you deeper into trouble. You are now being shown a way out, a path to freedom within your own mind.

Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)
If you are feeling confused, there is enormous power in it. If you are feeling clear, there is equal power in that state of mind. In short, the more you raise your awareness, the stronger you will feel, and weakness is just a sign that you are tuning out what you see, think and feel. Money is a theme that warrants a brief mention -- a sentence that may be worth thousands or hundreds of thousands. This is a very good time to take an aggressive, or at least assertive, position on financial issues. Both making the money and organizing it are highlighted right now, and one will lead to the other. Actions surely speak louder than words, though be aware of when and where words are a form of action.
