Thus spake Apollo. An eruption 30 times the diamater of the Earth occured on the Sun Monday at 9:19 am EDT, captured by the SOHO satellite. Solar flares can have tremendous impact on both electrical equipment and on the human nervous system. (And did everyone catch this? And how about this?)

Pisces is updated.

When the 9-Eleven thing happened, just at that moment, the planet Mercury was rising. Mercury is the planet of communication, and the fact that the disaster was partly televised live is a reminder of this planet's power. But the real message is that most terrorists work in words and images rather than events. They convey ideas, and those ideas convey most of the fear we actually experience. The main way terrorists get away from responsibility for their actions is by blaming other people for having said such things, for example, by using quotations, or in retaliation: they said this, so we say that. We need to revise our definition of terrorist, in light of this, and I propose that we become a lot less tolerant of the negativity, threats, paranoia and violence that are delivered to us by the so-called news. Terrorists know that fear is a drug, and part of the game they play is to get us hooked. Let's deal with it.

Hell Is Not Disneyland

July Horoscope

Sign dates below are approximate. They now overlap by one day. The date and time of the Sun's ingress to the new sign changes a little each year, so please check with an astrologer if you want the exact position of your Sun, and while you're at it, your rising sign -- this horoscope is written for both your Sun and rising signs. If you find that some other sign's interpretations work for you, then go for it.

Aries (March 20-April 21)
Hi John! I forgot to mention why things are so great for most Aries. A certain combination of aspects is encouraging you to be brave about your emotions. Aries is not an especially problematic sign, except for the little issue of confidence. But as the Mars-Jupiter conjunction unfolds, it's as if a wave-pulse of emotional strength is being unleashed in your heart. This is bestowing permission not just to feel and believe, but rather to believe what you feel. If doubting what we feel is the core of all insecurity, then you have the opportunity to feel quite secure in your life right now.

Taurus (April 21-May 20)
Relationships, as you are seeing, grant other individuals immense power over us, and can put us in a position of power in the lives of the people we are close to. One of the fundamental facts of desire is that the one desired has the power to give or to withhold, which is rather enormous, if you think about it. The emotional specifics can be deeply complicated, but when that power is shared in honest, righteous ways, the potential pleasure and depth of contact are immeasurable. One thing is certain: when real desire is expressed, people change. Truly, there is no point resisting what you feel.

Gemini (May 20-June 21)
I would not typically advise anyone to elevate form over substance, but in your case, at the moment, there is not much of a difference. But if you emphasize style, presentation, finesse and appearance, it will be a lot easier to convey the substance you have so boldly collected and created in your life. And expression is a big part of what you have open to you now. Expression of what? There is only one thing we can ever express in the world: energy. How you do this is entirely up to you, so ride that lightning bolt wherever you do please.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
How much is a self worth? We use this term rather glibly, as if the worth of a self could somehow be assessed. Worth is defined as, "The quality that renders something desirable, useful or valuable." But it has an archaic meaning, to befall or betide, that is, something unexpected that just happens. The two words derive from the same ancient linguistic root, wer, from which also emerge the words inward, versatile and weird. Clearly, your self-worth is changing, and while upcoming events may seem to befall you, and be a little inwardly weird, I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with the results.

Leo (July 22-Aug. 22)
On one level it really does come down to sensibility, which is usually another word for defense. But as the coming weeks unfold, there's only so sensible you'll want to be. Two major influences are arriving: a hot, high-powered thrust of energy, resembling a rocket booster going off; and a calm, quiet, reflective aspect of being which you will, as you realize it's there, be able to connect with whenever you need; you might call this your inner Goddess. The two form near-perfect balance, which will lend intelligence and reason to what would otherwise be one of the most wildly carried-away phases of your life.

Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22)
Don't worry if others see you as so more than you think you are, or are thanking you for things you had no part in bestowing on them. And really, don't worry if you perceive yourself as self-centered or not perfectly faithful to the cause of the Earth and her people; such are the dark imaginings of your fears. In truth, the opinion certain key people hold of you is closer to reality than your own perspective, but your perspective is changing. Recent developments have emphasized the need for communication, particularly on the most sensitive subjects. Remember.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23)
You may feel as if you're slipping over the edge of yourself. But you might get a better sense of it with a visual image. Imagine you are sitting quietly and suddenly become aware of the size of the cosmos around you. The feeling of sitting on a planet might be followed by a direct sense of its relationship to the Sun, and then outward in ever-larger proportions: the galaxy, the galaxy group, and so on. But to take this in, you too would be expanding your sense of your size, as if you contained the whole arrangement. In short, your mind is what you think it is.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
True religion far exceeds our meager ideas. It is an experience, directly available to the senses and to the heart, and it can be overwhelming. These experiences teach us; they change us and that change is a form of learning. The trick, teaches astrology, is to carry that learning with us as we enter the sphere of reality known as mundane power. The thing is, once that learning is in the body, it's difficult to forget. So as you take a step toward mastery of certain worldly realms, remember that many of those you seem to meet have not merely forgotten; they never knew in the first place.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22)
It's really great when people cooperate. Lately, I've figured out that the most important form of cooperation in my own life is what you could call an energetic meeting. I value people for the strength, power and awareness they bring into an encounter with me. I am feeling and listening carefully for their sense of humor, and their sense of play. I want some evidence that they are not intimidated by me. I know that you'll never be able to shrink yourself down to the size of the McPeople who populate the planet, so you'd best keep your nose sniffing for the Big Macs in the crowd. If you want to have fun, that is. (Freudian typo: I typed 'funk'.)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)
On my recent trip to the northern California mountains, I woke up my first morning to the feeling of the Earth moving. If you've never experienced this, it's very much the unusual phenomenon, and rather impressive even if it's happened to you before. The Earth is indeed moving, and these little vibes that pass through its crust are microcosmic reminders that everything we see and know is hurling, and us with it. The movements of your life have been contained within much larger processes. It may not feel like much has changed; the scenery may look more or less the same. But nothing is the same. Feel those little tremors.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)
You are more in balance than you think, and if you don't think so, then it's likely you've been holding back quite a bit for quite a while and the sudden movement of energy is making you think you feel like some kind of outrageous fool. You can, for the moment, try out some of your fancier tricks on the world, because while your magic is running hot, you are protected by a kind of spiritual guard rail that is keeping you within certain necessary limits. But the way to find those limits is to give them a little push, and another, and another, till you know for sure you're there; then give one last shove. Particularly on the door. Or rather, turn the knob.

Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)

I have decided after my complicated six-month experiment in fish keeping that African cichlids are the most interesting critters in my house. I like all the fish I've adopted, but the three cichlids who live in 20 gallons of water next to my desk are rather evocative. They are talented swimmers and can do things that don't seem possible in water. They have strange colors that are both pale and bright. Two of them turn and look right at me. They like to arrange their environment their own way. But most of all, they have a tendency to be aggressive and territorial. And they are plain beautiful. Grasshopper, you are the cichlid. Especially the feisty blue one who runs the tank.

Did I miss something? SALLY BROMPTON writes in the current TV Guide weekly horoscope:

PISCES - There are great weeks and then there are weeks that are so amazing that you only get a couple of them in a lifetime. This one is one of the latter. Between now and Wednesday's new moon, even your most impossible dreams will come true.
